Ephs leap 8 places in national poll now ranked 12th

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Mike Maker’s Williams men’s basketball team started off the season unranked, but one week after being ranked 20th the  8-0 Ephs have moved up 8 additional places in the D3hoops.com national poll this week to 12th.

Williams is now ranked one spot ahead of archrival Amherst (13th). The Lord Jeffs of Amherst are 6-1 on the year. The Ephs are one of three NESCAC teams to be ranked in the top 25 as Middlebury is 7 with a record of 7-0.

Williams leads NESCAC in five categories and is second in one. The Ephs are the top scoring NESCAC team (92.9) and they also top the conference in scoring margin (24.0), free throw percentage (.749) making 149 of 199, field goal percentage (.532) hitting on 254 of 477, and three-point field goal percentage (.457) draining 86 of 188. Maker’s Ephs are ranked second in the conference in rebounds per game with 43.8.

Four Ephs are scoring in double figures with senior captain Blake Schultz leading the way with 22.8 ppg. James Wang, who has made 16 of 25 three-point attempts and is scoring 16.1 ppg. Juniors Troy Whittington (12.0 ppg) and Harlan Dodson (10.4) round out the Eph double figure scorers.

Next up for the Ephs is a December 29th game vs. Elmira College in the first round of the Randolph-Macon Christmas Tournament in Ashland, VA. Randolph-Macon is 8-0 on the year currently ranked 5th nationally. The Yellow Jackets defeated Div. I American University in an exhibition game on November 3rd.
