KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 17, 2010) – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced rosters today for the first NABC Division III Senior All-Star game, which will played as part of the 2010 NCAA® Division III men’s basketball championships, March 20, at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.
Williams senior co-captains Joe Geoghegan and Blake
Schultz have been named to the rosters for Saturday’s first
contest. However, while the Eph duo is honored to be selected,
neither hopes to have the opportunity to play in the game. For
Geoghegan and Schultz to be able to play in the game the Ephs would
have to come up short vs. Guilford College in the national
semifinal contest on Friday at 5:00 PM in Salem.
The NABC Division III All-Star game will be played on Saturday,
March 20, at 10:30 a.m. (EDT), replacing the consolation
game. Two 10-man teams will be selected for the game, with
two players coming from each of the eight regions in Division III.
The remaining four senior players will be selected from the two
semifinal teams which do not reach the Division III national
championship game, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The game will feature a pair of outstanding former coaches who have both been recipients of the NABC Division III Distinguished Service Award. Former University of Wisconsin-River Falls coach Rick Bowen will lead the West team while Dr. Mike Beitzel, who coached for 20 seasons at Hanover College, will guide the East team.
The senior all-star players were nominated by coaches and selected by a panel of coaches representing each region in Division III.
Geoghegan and Schultz have started all 30 games this season for the Ephs and Schultz is the team’s top scorer with 19.0 ppg and Geoghegan leads Williiams in rebounds collecting 8.2 a contest. If Geoghegan and Schultz do play in the contest, Geoghegan will represent the East Team and Schultz will play for the West Team.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest “Phog” Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today’s student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.org.
