Amy Siedlecki & Whitney Thayer named to All-NESCAC Second Team

WILIAMSTOWN, MA – A pair of Williams seniors has been voted onto the All-NESAC Field Hockey Second Team. Defender Amy Siedlecki (Madison, CT) and midfielder Whitney Thayer (Lancaster, PA) earned second team recognition in a vote of the conference’s coaches.

The Ephs finished 6-10 on the year, but they did raise some eyebrows with their stunning reversal vs. Middlebury. Dropping the regular season finale at Middlebury 7-1 the Ephs went back to Middlebury less than 48 hours later to shock the Panthers 2-1 in the first round of the NESCAC Tournament to advance to the conference semifinals. The Ephs then lost to eventual NESCAC Champion Tufts 3-0 to end their season.

Thayer a midfielder started all16 games for the Ephs and netted 3 goals on the year.  Thayer played 540 minutes and fired off 24 shots, with 10 being on goal.

“Whit has been our most consistent player this season,” said Eph coach Alix Rorke.  “She has great awareness and good decision making skills. Her skills have kept us in every game. She is not a flashy player nor does she have glittering stats, but when the game is on the line she is present. She creates on offense and protects us on defense.  She would be an asset to any program.”

Sidlecki, a defender, also started all 16 games this spring and recorded one assist on the year in 551 minutes of action.

“Amy has been a three-year starter at left back,” noted Rorke.  “She was key to our defensive corners and she made diving saves all season long like it was her job.  She was an excellent stick stopper on our offensive corners.  She executed whatever game plan we gave her.  We were on defense a lot this fall and because of Amy's defensive instinct and strong stick skills we kept most every game close.”
