Williams tops #17 Springfield, 3-1

Williamstown, MA- The Williams College Ephs (4-3) posted a 3-1 victory over 17th-ranked Springfield College Pride (5-3) on Wednesday night at Renzie Lamb Field after losing their last two consecutive competitions.

The Ephs entered the game with more intensity than previous games, although they were still missing usual starter, senior Meighan McGowan (Greenwich, CT). Junior Anne de Saint Phalle (Bronxville, NY) stepped up on the offensive end in the first period with Williams's first goal. The Ephs kept their momentum throughout the first period and with just 3 minutes until halftime, first-year Karyn Moss (Medfield, MA) put in Williams's second goal.

Defensively, the Ephs were strong with Amy McLaughlin (Topsfield, MA) and Rebecca Gilbert (Berwyn, PA) bringing consistency to the backline. As the second half began, the Springfield Pride brought concentration to match that of Williams and senior Jillian Urtz (Verona, NY) scored their first and only goal.

Williams quickly answered with a goal from senior Julia Nawrocki (Winchester, UK) one minute later. Williams had 6 penalty corners as apposed to Springfield?s 8. Springfield ended the game with 11 shots taken, while Williams took 9 shots.

Eph sophomore Katrina Tulla (New Canaan, CT) was in goal all 70 minutes and had 3 saves. Senior Sarah Burleigh (Darien, CT) contributed 2 defensive saves for the Ephs. Springfield goalie Alison McCarthy had 2 saves.

Williams head coach Alix Rorke felt that her team "bounced back well from Saturday's loss with much more confidence, communication, and smart passing."

Williams competes again Saturday, October 4 at noon on Renzie Lamb Field against Trinity College.
