Worcester, MA -- With a stong team effort and unrelenting
offense, Williams College defeated Clark College 6-0 in their
non-conference match on Thursday night at Granger Field.
The Ephs kicked off the first period strong with four goals, each by a different teammate. Junior Whit Thayer (Lancaster, PA) scored the first goal of the night off a pass by senior Jess Overlander (New Canaan, Conn.) on a penalty corner. Less than two minutes later Jess Overlander scored off a second penalty corner with assists from both senior Julie Nawrocki (Winchester, UK) and junior Amy Siedlicki (Madison, Conn.).
Senior Elspeth Macmillan (Portland, OR) raised the margin to 3-0 when she scored off an assist by sophmore Alice Bearn (Bethlehem, PA). The final goal of the first half was made by senior Meighan McGowan (Greenwich, Conn.) off a pass from Whit Thayer.
The Ephs remained strong in the second period holding the Cougars scoreless and adding two to their tally. Freshman Lucy Rollins (Rye, NY) scored the first goal of the second period off an assist by junior Anne de Saint Phalle (Bronxville, NY), and freshman Katie Ellis (Darien, Conn.) scored the Ephs final goal of the game off a pass by Whit Thayer.
Cougar junior goalie Kathryn Dawsey had 17 saves in goal, while Eph sophmore goalie Katrina Tulla (New Canaan, Conn.) faced no shots on goal.
Overall, Williams College had a well-balanced game playing everyone off the bench. Coach Rorke (9th Season) looks forward to having gained in-game experience and having fresh starters for their home match against Bowdoin this Saturday.
