2nd Half Surge Leads Ephs Over Clark 5-0

Williamstown, MA—The William's field
hockey team was led by their upperclassmen in Thursday's game
against Clark University, winning 5-0 . Tonight's five goals, all
scored by upperclassmen, helped improve the Ephs record to 5-0
overall, while the Cougars record dropped to 3-3.
The Ephs controlled most of the first half but remained scoreless
until junior Meighan McGowan scored off a rebound with 2:15 left in
the period.
The second half really opened things up for the Ephs, starting
with a goal off a high shot from kunior Sally Cobb, assisted by
McGowan with 31:14 left in the 2nd half. Senior K.K. Kreig followed
up with a goal from the stroke line, assisted by Meighan McGowan
(her 4th point of the game), with 28:30 left in the half. Senior
Cary Bearn added to the lead, scoring with 21:11 left in the half,
assisted by Whitney Thayer. Junior Julia Nawrocki scored the last
goal of the game at 5:05.
Once again, Lindsay Jones and Bethany Baker split time in the Cage
for the Ephs. Jones played the first half, making 2 saves, and
Baker played the second half, seeing no shots.
Williams had 17 penalty corners (Clark had none) and out shot the
Cougars, 23-2.
Upperclassmen, Taylor Wilson-Hill, Meighan McGowan, and Cary
Bearns really stepped things up this game to Head Coach Alix
Rorke's delight, "McGowan really set people up and they all worked
the ball on the right side…the passing was tremendous," said
Rorke.
Williams found themselves in a similar position to last game,
improving as the game went on and scoring most goals in the second
half. "We played ten times better in the 2nd half," said Coach
Rorke.
The Ephs are looking forward to an intense conference game this
Saturday against Bowdoin College in Maine. Coach Rorke will be
looking forward to the challenge, "we'll need hunger for a goal and
intensity in the first half," said Rorke. She's also looking to her
seniors for support, "good communication will be key," both on the
field and off.
