SERIES: Williams leads the series 61-17-1. The Ephs have won last 6 meetings. Last year at Weston Field the Ephs won 40-9.
The last time the Ephs and Panthers played in Middlebury it was a coming-out party of sorts for then sophomore QB Pat Lucey, who threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns on 14-for-17 passing in his first collegiate start. The Ephs went on to win that game by a score of 39 to 18.
The last Panther win came in 2000 when they shutout the Ephs 7-0 at Weston Field. The last Panther win at Middlebury over the Ephs was in 1987 by a score of 17-7 in the first game of the season.
COACHES: The Ephs' Mike Whalen (21-6) is in his
fourth year as the Williams head coach. Whalen was previously the
Ephs' head wrestling coach from 1996 to 2003, and the offensive
line coach for the same span, including the last three with years
as offensive coordinator. Whalen is 3-0 vs. Middlebury.
Whalen guided the 2006 Ephs to the sixth perfect season in
Williams history, extending the Eph win streak to 14 and earning
NESCAC Coach of the Year honors. He was also the only New England
coach to finish in the top 25 in Liberty Mutual's Coach of the Year
program among coaches in all divisions of college football.
Whalen, a 1983 graduate of Wesleyan University, captained both the
football and wrestling teams while earning All-New England and
All-American honors three times. Whalen's football coaching resume
also includes stops at Springfield, Penn, Lafayette, and Colgate.
Middlebury's Bob Ritter is in his seventh year as head coach of the Panthers and has compiled a record of 28-23. He is a 1982 graduate of Middlebury and previously served the Panthers as an assistant football and lacrosse coach, before assuming the head lacrosse and assistant football positions at Tufts from the fall of 1988 tthrough the spring of 1996. Ritter returned to Middlebury in the fall of 1996 as an assistant football and lacrosse coach. Ritter is 0-6 vs. the Ephs.

STREAKS: Williams currently has a 6-game win streak over
Middlebury.
The Ephs enter today's game after winning their first game of the
year last week vs. Bates. After opening the season with road losses
at Bowdoin (24-14), and last week at Trinity, 46-40 3 OT. Williams
came back from a 20-6 first half deficit to beat the Bobcats 31-26.
Middlebury is undefeated so far this season, beating Wesleyan on the road (24-10), Colby at home (41-0), and Amherst on the road last week (19-16).
