9 Ephs named All-NESCAC; Lucey repeats as Offensive Player of the Year


Williams College placed nine players on the All-NESCAC Football First and Second Teams this year with seven on the first team, three on the second and senior QB Pat Lucey captured his second straight Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Lucey (Plymouth, MA) was named the NESCAC First Team QB and the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. He set Eph season marks for most passes completed (167) and most passes attempted with 272, connecting on 61.4 percent of his aerials. Lucey threw for 1,959 yards and 16 TDs. He averaged a NESCAC best 244.9 yards a game passing and compiled the conference's best QB efficiency rating (132.5). Lucey finished second in NESCAC in total offense with a per game average of 252.1 yards a game.

Junior offensive tackle John Szawlowski (Hatfield, MA) earned his second consecutive appearance on the First Team for his role in helping the Ephs potent offensive attack that led NESCAC in passing, rushing and scoring.

Junior running back Brian Morrissey (Winchester, MA) moved up from the Second Team in 2006 to the First Team this fall on the strength of being the NESCAC's top rusher. Morrissey averaged 117.4 yards a game and rushed for 951 yards on the year. Morrissey rushed for a conference best 13 TDs and caught 16 passes for 80 yards and one TD. He also scored on a two-point conversion rush and his 86 points led the Ephs in scoring.

WR Ryan Powell had a breakout season going from six catches in his sophomore year to a league best 54 catches as a junior. Powell (Fairfax, VA) turned his 54 catches into 742 yards and four TDs and was a threat to turn a short pass into a long gainer or to go full out and make a spectacular diving grab.

Senior RB Kevin Flynn (Concord, MA), the Ephs' second leading rusher (42 yards/game) served as the Ephs top returner of kickoffs and punts was named the NESCAC's First Team return specialist and to the Second Team on offense. He returned 21 kickoffs for 450 yards for an average of 21.4 yards a return. His longest kickoff return was 41 yards.  

Flynn returned 17 punts for 143 yards (8.5/return) with a long of 43. He also led the Ephs in all purpose yards with 134.9 a game. Flynn rushed for 348 yards with an impressive 5.8 yards a carry, scoring two TDs on the ground and catching 16 passes for 149 yards and two TDs.

Senior defensive lineman Andrew DeSalvo and junior LB Trevor Powers each garnered First Team All-NESCAC laurels for the first time.

DeSalvo (Boxford, MA) recorded 24 tackles on the year, including 2.5 tackles for a loss. He also intercepted one pass and returned it 10 yards, while breaking up five more passes. Powers finished fifth in NESCAC and first on the Ephs in tackles with 72 total tackles (25 solo). He recorded eight tackles for a loss, notched two sacks and recovered one fumble.

Junior offensive tackle Henry Szawlowski (Hatfield, MA) recorded his second straight Second Team All-NESCAC selection in contributing to the conference's most potent offensive machine.

Junior DB Tim Batty (Chenango Bridge, NY) collected Second Team honors this season by registering a team-high 38 solo tackles and 52 tackles, while picking off two passes and breaking up seven.

In addition Lucey, Morrissey, Flynn and John Szawlowski were named First Team All ECAC-Northeast.
