Al Mathews Garners Regional & National Honors and 1 more game

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – When you hit just under .500 on the year it is not unexpected that post-season honors will roll in and that is certainly the case for Eph baseball senior captain Al Mathews (North Hampton, NH/Phillips Exeter) who has been named First Team all New England by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) and named an Honorable Mention All-American by D3baseball.com.

Mathews also collected Second Team ECAC-New england honors this season as well.

By virtue of his first team NEIBA selection Mathews has been invited to participate in the NEIBA Div. II vs. Div. III All-Star game slated for Sunday, June 6 in Fenway Park at 3:00 PM.

The all-star game is on the same day as the Williams College graduation ceremony that begins at 10:00 AM. Mathews, the Ephs leftfielder, is going to try and hustle down to Fenway in time for the contest.

Mathews batted .497 on the year and led NESCAC with 73 hits. He was a First Team All-NESCAC selection two years in a row and this year was voted Co-NESCAC Player of the year. Mathews also recorded a .542 on base percentage and a .639 slugging percentage for the 23-12-1 Ephs.

Matthews belted 11 doubles, and 5 triples and accumulated 94 total bases, while scoring 46 runs and driving in 38.
