WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — First-year Eddie Nadel hurled six no-hit innings Wednesday to lead Williams to a 3-0 win over Southern Vermont College at Bobby Coombs Field.

The Ephs won their seventh straight ballgame and improved to 18-7 overall heading into a three-game series with Wesleyan which begins with a doubleheader in Middletown, CT Saturday at 1 p.m.

Nadel lost his no-hit bid when SVC's Brett Pawlak led off the top of the seventh with a line-drive single to left, but the young right-hander completed his seven innings of work by allowing just the one hit. Nadel was sharp from the start, and he walked just two batters while striking out seven.

SVC's Ben Naaktgeboren wasn't bad either, tossing a complete-game effort by going eight innings. He gave up 11 hits to the Ephs, but scattered them around and allowed just single runs in the third, fifth and seventh.

The two teams battled through a strong wind and rain from the second inning on, but it didn't effect the Ephs bats too much, as they scratched out a run in the third when sophomore James Allison led off with an opposite-field double down the left-field line, was sacrificed to third by Stephen Maier and scored on a line-drive single to left by Robin Allemand.

In the fifth, Al Mathews blooped a double to left with two outs and scored when Cameron Susk scorched a single into the right-centerfield gap for a 2-0 lead. In the seventh, it was senior Taylor Mikell delivering a clutch two-out single to left that scored Mathews with another insurance run.

Nadel did much of the rest, allowing just four SVC baserunners over his seven frames. After he hit Dave Gage with a pitch with two outs in the third, Nadel picked Gage off first. He then retired the next nine batters in a row until Pawlak's lead-off single in the seventh.

Eph reliever Tom Coleman gave up two hits in the eighth, but struck out Gage looking with two outs and two on to end the frame. First-year Ben Oliva also allowed two hits in the ninth, but retired Pat Warrington to end it on a nice backhanded play by first baseman Zach Stone.

Allemand was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Williams, while Mikell was 1 for 1 with an RBI and three walks. Allison also went 2 for 4 and Maier was 2 for 3.
