
HADLEY, MA — Williams senior Dan Benz (Cicero, NY) and junior Al Mathews (North Hampton, NH) were selected First Team All-NESCAC Wednesday after guiding the Ephs to a 25-12 record this season.
Benz was selected as a First team member for the second year in a row after being named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2006. He finished his four-year career 21-6 with a 3.24 ERA and 207 strikeouts in 211 innings.

This season Benz finished 5-2 with a 4.78 ERA. In 10 appearances, nine starts, he hurled 43 1/3 innings and allowed 40 hits and 22 walks while striking out 49 while holding opponents to a .237 batting average.
Mathews led the conference and the
Ephs in hits with 68 and RBI with 51. His .466 batting average led
the Ephs and he also posted a .524 on-base percentage and a .562
slugging percentage. He stole 10 bases in 12 attempts this
season and had a fielding percentage of .980, making just one error
in the outfield.
The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) named
Mathews to its 2009 All-New England Third Team.
Mathews was a Second Team All-NESCAC selection in 2008.
