Ephs pound out 17 hits in win over Elms

CHICOPEE, MA- The Williams College baseball team (13-7) won their second game in as many days with a 15-4 win over Elms College. Building on Monday's walkoff win over MCLA, the Ephs pounded out 17 hits and remained undefeated on the road since returning to New England.
"Up and down the lineup we hit the ball hard and had great approaches," said head coach Bill Barrale. "We went the whole game without an error and that's always key."
With the struggles at the plate against Amherst still fresh in their minds, the Ephs started strong and posted an 8-1 lead after five innings. The Blazers mounted a small rally in the sixth and pulled within six at 10-4, but that was as close as they would get. Williams posted runs in the seventh and ninth, and cruised to the 15-4 victory.
On the mound to start for the Ephs was sophomore Wilson Barr, who improved to 2-0 on the season with six strong innings and six strikeouts. The bullpen was even more impressive as first years Matt Berdoff, Dan Grossman and Harry Marino combined to keep the Blazers hitless through the final three innings.
On offense, the Ephs had six hitters with multihit games, four of which also posted multiple RBI. Senior Taylor Mikell went 3-4 to go along with two runs and an RBI, while fellow senior Zach Stone posted two runs and two RBI.
The strong first year class was also impressive at the plate as Stephen Maier went 2-6 with 3 runs from the leadoff spot, and Cameron Susk touched the plate four times to go along with two hits.
Rounding out the top performances for the Ephs were juniors Robin Allemand (2-4, two runs, two RBI), Al Matthews (2-5, three RBI), and Chad Brown (3-5, three RBI).
"We came out swinging, played error-free, and got good pitching performances," said Barrale. "When we play like that, we always give ourselves a chance to win."
The Ephs return home Thursday April 16th with an afternoon game against Castleton beginning at 4 PM.
