Six-run 6th pushes Ephs past Brockport State

GLENDALE, AZ. -- A six-run explosion in the top of the sixth inning Tuesday helped the Williams College baseball team to a 9-6 victory over Brockport State at Glendale Community College.
The win improved Williams mark to 3-0 on the young season. The Ephs will take on Johns Hopkins Wednesday in Tempe. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. MST.
Williams banged out 14 hits in Tuesday's win, with junior Barrett Allison playing a major role by going 3 for 4 with two RBI and making a key defensive play. Seniors James DiCosmo and Max Pinto also banged out three hits in the win.
Sophomore Paul Burgdorf was the winner. He started and threw six solid innings, giving up just three hits and two runs, both unearned, while walking five and striking out two. Junior Zach Stone hurled two innings, and first-year Wilson Barr pitched the last frame.
Williams took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth but the Cardinals rallied to tie the score and had runner on first and second with one out when Eph third baseman Allison dove full-length to his right to snare a sharp grounder and start an inning-ending double play.
The Ephs exploded for six runs in the top of the next inning. Pinto got things started with a single. Taylor Mikell followed with a single. Chad Brown drew a walk to load the bases. Senior Kevin Flynn lined an RBI-single for a 3-2 lead.
After a double play, Al Mathews drew a walk, and a run was balked home. Barrett Allison followed with a two-run single for a 6-2 lead. Robin Allemand ripped an RBI-triple and DiCosmo scored hom with a single.
DiCosmo finished 3 for 4 with three RBI in the game. Pinto was 3 for 5 with a double and triple. Mikell went 2 for 5.
