Monday, May 2nd ! ESPN's Michael Fountain to Present 22nd Annual Frank Deford Award

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- ESPN’s Michael Fountain, Senior Coordinating Producer of College GameDay Football and Basketball will present the 22nd annual Frank Deford Award at Williams College on May 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall.

The Deford Award is presented annually to the top student Sports Information assistant(s) at Williams College and is believed to be the only award of its kind in college athletics.

Members of Aaron Pinsky’s family will present the 2nd annual Aaron Pinsky ’06 Sports Broadcasting Award at the event.

Following the presentations Fountain will speak on the topic of “The Ins and Outs of ESPN College GameDay” and take questions from the audience.

In 2007 ESPN College GameDay Football made its first appearance on an NCAA Division III campus when it aired its 150th outdoor show from Weston Field at Williams.

Michael Fountain graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in media communications and began his professional career as a production assistant at KDKA-TV (CBS) in Pittsburgh, climbing the ranks to executive producer.

Next Fountain was an executive producer at WCAU-TV (Philadelphia), senior producer - The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather; assistant news director - WUSA-TV and WJLA-TV (Washington, DC;) VP/News & Public Affairs Programming - BET and executive producer - Discovery Health Channel.

In 2003, Fountain joined ESPN as a coordinating producer and was promoted to senior coordinating producer in 2007.  Fountain has overseen production of ESPN’s College GameDay Football for the past eight years and oversees production of College GameDay Basketball, College Football Live, College Basketball Final, all studio coverage of the BCS National Championship, and the Men’s NCAA Basketball tournament coverage.

Fountain has won four national Emmy awards at ESPN and one at The CBS Evening News.

Michael and his wife Debra have four children, Taylor, Danielle, Bryson and Chase. They reside in West Hartford, CT.
