A million is a lot and Tuesday (2/23) is the day
Maybe in the U.S. Treasury Department or the Math Department, a million is not a lot, but in visits to Division III athletic web sites, a million is a lot.
Sometime on Tuesday, February 23 the Williams Athletics site will have its one-millionth visitor since September 1, 2009.
A year it ago it took the Williams Athletics website from September 1st until June 18 to record its one-millionth visitor. The year ended on August 31st with a grand total of 1,190,093 visitors, a record for the Ephs.
Every month from September 2009 through February 2010 the site has recorded a total number of visits greater than the previous record one-month total established in November of 2007 when ESPN’s GameDay made its first appearance on a Division III campus.
Prior to September 1, 2009 the record for visitors in one month was 131,301. The new record for one month is now 205,409 recorded in November of 2009.
On the average the site receives visits from more than 110 countries each month.
Perhaps winning has a lot to do with the record number of visits, but winning is not new at Williams where the Ephs have won 13 of the 14 Directors’ Cups awarded to the top NCAA Division III athletics program, including the last 11 in a row.
Tweeting and the EphSports Twitter account debuted in the fall, but it does not have a huge following yet, so that’s not the reason for the surge.
Maybe just being home to a plethora of interesting articles and great action photos is the answer.
It will be interesting, however, to see if a Facebook account for Eph athletics will make the current record numbers prior records.
Thanks for stopping by, come back often.
